The Challenge
Marmic Fire & Safety, a leading fire and life safety service provider, operates dozens of branches across multiple states, supporting thousands of recurring inspection and service visits each month. Their legacy, mostly manual scheduling approach could not keep pace with the company’s growth and geographic footprint, resulting in inefficient technician assignments and routes.
With nearly 700 technicians and close to 24,000 jobs each month, jobs were often visited in a suboptimal order, increasing drive time and shrinking the hours available for revenue-generating work. High variability in how schedulers and technicians chose jobs—sometimes centrally scheduled, sometimes technician-selected—created inconsistent utilization, higher overtime, and limited visibility into true capacity.
When Marmic piloted a centralized scheduling center for its southwest region, covering 12 offices in Missouri and neighboring states, leadership quickly saw that a more systematic, data-driven approach was needed. They required a solution that could algorithmically optimize schedules and routes at scale, while still allowing human review and adjustments to build trust and adoption among dispatchers and technicians.

Marmic partnered with PrimeAI to deploy AI engines for Workforce Scheduling and Workforce Routing tailored to their operations and technician workforce. These engines optimize job assignments by considering technician location, skillsets, certifications, job duration, service-level requirements, and job priority, ensuring the right technician is sent to the right job at the right time.
Initially, the AI-generated schedules and routes ran in parallel with human schedulers, who could review, adjust, and compare them with existing practices. This “human-in-the-loop” rollout helped demonstrate the engines’ accuracy and practicality, giving schedulers confidence that AI could improve their day-to-day work rather than replace it.
The AI engines ingest operational data from ServiceTrade, Marmic’s field operations platform, to continuously update schedules and routes as jobs are added, rescheduled, or completed. A dedicated executive dashboard provides real-time visibility into schedule adherence, travel time, overtime, and capacity utilization, giving the CFO and regional leaders clear insight into the financial and operational gains from AI-driven optimization.
